You have probably seen them on your realm… bank alts… or AH chars. You’ve noticed them, because they had names like Hugobank, or AH’r’us. And they made you wonder: why use a bank alt?
Well, both Scorpyo and I have bank alts, or AH chars, as we call them. And those chars have taken on their own life. That’s why I decided to write a series of articles around the theme “a day in the life of an AH char”. And I’m going to start by explaining why an AH char is a really good thing.
In short: You will make more money, and you will save time.
Can it be much better?
Why Having a Bank Alt Saves You Time
When you’re out there with your main or your leveling alt, killing monsters, attacking the opposite faction, mining gold, or whatever you’re out in the field doing, do you just stop right there and say: “I have to go to the auction house”?
Well, you might not have thought that precisely about it, but I bet you have been swearing more than once, because your bags were full.
So you lost a lot of time going back to a city and finding a vendor and an auction house to sell your stuff in. After that, you have to go back and start doing again, what you were doing earlier.
What if you instead could just find a mail box, send whatever you had for sale to your AH char, and then continue your quest? That would save you a lot of time. Believe me.
Having a Bank Alt Makes You More Gold
If you have an AH char, you can make more gold. It’s simple. Instead of being out there in the field, on your own, and not wanting to waste time going to the city to sell stuff in AH, you stay out there, and you delete grey gear and food to make space in your bags.
After a while, you even delete green gear to free up a few slots. And then, finally, you quit and go to an auction house.
However, you’ve already lost a lot of gold here. And by spending time going to an auction house, and going back again later, you lose time you could have made more gold in.
If you have a bank alt in place, it can always be ready to sell for you. It will cash in a lot of gold, and when your second alt needs to learn fast flying, your AH char can send the gold. You don’t have to switch from alt to alt seven times to collect the money. That too, saves you time, by the way, and time is gold.
Are There Any Disadvantages of Having a Bank Alt?
One, yes. It will take up one of the allowed characters you can have on a realm. This means that you can only have ten other characters to play with. But don’t worry. I have a tip you can use later to have fun with your AH char as well.
At least, I hope that you are now convinced that you need a bank alt.
