Let the Mantids Help You

If you are doing archeology, you might want to go for a special artifact. It can be some bound on account gear or a nice mount: The fossilized raptor or Vial of the Sands, for instance.

There are different ways to speed this up, actually.

One of them is to dig in Pandaria and to use these restored artifacts to buy crates from Brann Bronzebeard, like Nimrasil explains in this tip

But you can speed it up even more.

Brann Bronzebeard is also selling something called Mantid Artifact Sonic Locator (on page 2). It costs one restored artifacts and while this item is in your bag, any new digsites you discover in Pandaria will be of Mantid origin. It lasts for 24 hours.

And what is the catch?

Easy: First of all, Mantid may have cool artifacts, but that is not the only reason.

Mantid digsites are extremely small. Very often, you just have to dig the exact same place where you just dug, to get a new piece of an artifact. If you have to walk, it is very few steps.

In no time, you will have 10 or 20 restored artifacts.

Beware though, some places, these Mantid can be quite aggressive. In this case, I use a potion of luck beforehand and get even more treasures from the mob.

So even though it costs you one restored artifact, and even if you don’t dig more than an hour, it is largely worth it. With the new bunch of restored artifacts, you can buy more crates of Fossil Archeology Fragments or Crates of Tol’vir Archeology Fragments and multiply your chance to get the Fossilized Raptor or the Vial of the Sands (if you are with an alchemist only).
