Edge from Manaview – A Review

Edge

My rating: 4 stars – Website reviewed: Manaview’s Edge

One of Manaview’s add on is called Edge. It is an in-game advisor about talents, glyphs and rotations.

According to Manaview, less than 10% of the WoW gamers play at the optimal level, and this can be changed just by buying their add-on, Edge.

Edge is part of the suit Manaview offers. The product bought separately costs $37 as a “limited time discount”. Is Edge worth it?

Edge has many interesting possibilities: You just have to choose your class, your specs, and if you want PvP, PvE leveling or raiding, etc. and it will give you advices.

You will have three kinds of advice.

First advice is a window cut in four part: Description, Pros, Cons and Strategy.

Edge's window

Description: Is a short description of your class and advice about talents and glyphs.

Pros: Describes the positive side of this class and spec.

Cons: Describes the negative side of this class and spec.

Strategy: Gives you your stats’ priority, the best way to reforge, the best rotation against one or multiple targets or (for PvP) a bit about spell priority and strategy (since there is not really any rotation in PvP).

I have especially seen on the PvP side and I can say that the advices are valuable and correct. Of course, I do not do exactly that, and it is difficult to advise a PvP player because it is more depending on the style of the person. Even though I didn’t agree with all their advice, it is not because they are wrong, but just because I have another playstyle. As a rule of thumb and in general, the advice is accurate and can be followed, at first, until you find your own style.

On the PvE side, the advise is also totally correct. Also there, of course, you will find people who prefer to use another kind of rotation or talents, but it doesn’t mean that Manaview is wrong on this one.

Then you have advice about talents and glyphs.

If you already are talented and glyphed and if your choices are corresponding to their advice, you will see a little green cross near the corresponding talent. If not, you will see a red cross near the talent you have chosen and a green cross near the one they would advise you to choose.

Also here, this depends on your style and how good you know your class. You can freely chose something else, but as starter talents, the choices are good. You can follow their advice without problems.

Glyphs are advised a bit in the same way: If you are glyphed, you will see a green ring around your glyph if it corresponds to what they would advise you to and a red ring around the glyph if you haven’t got any, or if you have another. If you mouse over the glyph, you will see what glyph they advise you to take.

Also here, it seems that Manaview stays classical and logical. There is consistency in the advice.

All in all the product works well, is sensible and logical and a good advisor.

The only issue there is about this add-on is the price: $37 is much too much for a product that is giving you basic advices. $10 to $15 would be the maximum for such an add-on. Besides the “limited offer” that has been a special offer “for a limited time” since at least August 2011 (even though, back then, the prices were $49 to $39) isn’t really inspiring trust. Maybe the best would be just to put the price down to a more reasonable level.

Because of the rip-off price, I will only give four stars to Edge instead of five. You can buy this add on here.
